We can help you get prepared.
OFE is partnering with Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) to prepare people to
work in our local manufacturing industry.

In 2017, OFE worked with over 60 people who came to Canada as refugees and who took part in
our Manufacturing Production Worker Program, which is delivered as an Initiative under the
Refugee Employment Development Initiative (REDI).

100% of the people who completed the program said that the experience changed their lives.
Many have told us that because of their full-time employment they were able to make life chang-
es that were important to them like moving to a safer area, reuniting with family members,
buying a home, getting a driver’s license, getting married etc. Participants told us that they had
grown in confidence and are experiencing a sense of belonging in the community.

TESTIMONIALS

Leluwa

REDI Participant

Leluwa has been working as an Assembler at Duxton
Windows & Doors since she completed her workplace
training in July 2017. She told us “I’m lucky because I
found my first job with a wonderful company.” Because
of her hard work, she received her first wage increase in
October, and is now making $12.00 per hour. “Life has
changed” because she is receiving a regular paycheque
; “Now I have enough money to pay rent, pay bills with no
problems. There is extra money to buy fruit, clothes,
shoes and to have my hair done in different style.” She is
proud to be able to support herself and has the financial
freedom to treat herself. Like others, having a job has
impacted her life in many ways. She has the confidence
to learn and try new things, and is learning to drive for
the first time. “I love this company,” she says, “my
coworkers and managers are so friendly. They
help me with problems, and I am happy to learn new
things. On holidays, I get paid for a day off with my
family.” She is grateful for the supports and training
offered by this program. “I found the best job because of
OFE. Before, I had no Canadian experience and no train-
ing. My English was not good. I’m here because of OFE. I’m so grateful.”

Palliser

Employer Partner

Palliser Furniture has been working with The OFE – Redi
Program since July 2017. The coaches and mentors
worked with us to customize, as much as possible, their
class curriculum to meet the specific recruitment needs
that align with Palliser Furniture for our manufacturing
plant. The Intensive English for Work training uses real
workplace vocabulary and utilized several of our every-
day production documents to successfully do so. The
candidates came prepared and knowledgeable about
“Palliser” vocabulary, and although they have low
language levels, they were confident enough to be able to
communicate with supervisors and team members.
The benefits for our company by partnering with OFE has
saved us valuable time and money by prescreening,
training and pre-support for us with the participant’s
transition into our workplace and post support during
their on the job training.”
