In this time of uncertainty, good news is more important than ever. That’s why we want to take the time to celebrate our participants’ successes, whether big or small, in the hopes of encouraging you on your job search journey. No matter how difficult or overwhelming the path, small victories lit the way, and OFE is happy to hear those stories from you!
Chris started his OFE journey back in March after having lost his job earlier in the year. He knew he had limited funds, and therefore limited time to find a new job. His Employment Consultant (EC) knew it too and neither of them wasted any time getting his job search action plan started. While he was out and about submitting resumes and making cold calls, he also participated in OFE workshops such as Job Search Preparation and Interview Preparation. He was doing all he could in the background so that when an employer called, he would be ready for it.
Of course in the middle of all this many companies drastically slowed their recruitment as business was affected by Covid-19. This added an extra challenge to Chris’ job search but he was determined and motivated, and it showed through his ability to communicate regularly with his EC despite having limited access to the internet. As you know, OFE’s in-person services were suspended during this time and Chris was strengthened by the support and advice he continued to receive while OFE staff worked remotely.
At last, just as Chris was wondering how he would pay the next month’s rent, he was offered a full time job as a Shipper/Receiver, making more money than his previous employment! He submitted over a hundred resumes along the way and completed many interviews, often one after the other. This is a great reminder to follow different leads and to keep going with your job search even after you’re interviewed because a positive outcome is not always guaranteed. His effort and perseverance was an encouragement to us, and we hope it encourages you as well in your job search!
